Class Description

Text / Materials Required: Small Harp; Tabletop Music Stand

This class offers a rare opportunity to learn the harp in a group setting for a fraction of the cost of private lessons. The class is perfect for students with no or little background in music. They will learn more than how to pluck a string: they will learn how to understand what they are playing and collaborate with one another. These music skills will translate to any instrument.

Children will be taught rhythm, aural training, and music reading while they learn how to play the harp with healthy technique. They will learn how to perform as soloists and as ensemble members. For the last class session, there will be a group recital that tells the story of Noah’s ark.

A small harp is required for the class, which can be purchased on Amazon from AKLOT (click for link) or from Derwent Harps (click for link). If ordering from Derwent Harps, please allow 10 weeks for your order as they are based in Wales and the harps are made-to-order. Students will also need a book stand, like a recipe book stand (click for example) or a convertible music stand that can be used on tabletops (click for example).

It is recommended that students do not have access to their harps before the third week of school. Starting week 3, students will need to bring their harps to class.

If you have any questions about the class or finding a harp, do not hesitate to contact Ms. Lancaster.

*Materials fees are for the music books.
