Class Description

This course will present an overview of the Old Testament scriptures. The course will cover the historical, poetic and prophetic context of the Old Testament in the spirit of Luke 24:44,45. Each homework reading assignment is read prior to the dated class. Lecture and Discussion of read material will be during class. We will emphasize the contribution of this portion of scripture to the whole Bible.  Students will learn the reason for each Old Testament book’s name, the chronology of Old Testament history, key events in shaping that history, the moral, ethical and spiritual purpose of the book and the link to the New Testament. Students will also learn methods for bible study, principles for biblical interpretation and relevance of the Old Testament in the life of all people. Comprehension will be evaluated by weekly discussion participation and a Final Test.
