Class Description

In this class, the basics of ASL (American Sign Language) will be visually taught including fingerspelling, basic ASL grammar, basic signs for common words and phrases surrounding everyday topics like family, friends, school and leisure activities. The students will also be introduced to the Deaf community, its history and its culture. Interactive lessons and activities will be used to give the students opportunities to practice their expressive (signing) and receptive (understanding signs) skills; thus, building their comprehension and communication skills in ASL throughout the year. There will be no graded content.
