Class Description

This year-long class introduces subjects such as functions and coordinate graphing, integers, exponential expressions, and prime factorization. Students will specifically learn about the order of operations, number lines, decimal place value, how to find the percent of a number, how to round decimal numbers, attributes of geometric solids, and more.

Class time will be spent on the presentation of new material (approximately four to six lessons per week) and answering homework questions as time permits.  Parents will pre-grade homework so that the student has an opportunity to self-correct before coming to class with questions.  On occasion, homework will be collected and graded by the instructor.  There will be weekly take-home quizzes and an occasional take-home test.  This course will be taught with very high expectations for the students.  Please be sure your student is ready to complete a generous amount of homework each week, study for quizzes, and begin learning theory necessary for all upcoming algebra courses.  Parents are not required to know the subject matter, but must facilitate the learning of the subject during the week such as checking that assignments are completed, pre-grading assignments, securing tutoring help if needed so that the student does not fall behind, checking comments on graded work when returned to the student, signing progress reports (three per semester), etc.

This class is closed to new students in the spring semester.
