Fall 2026: Beowulf translated by either Burton Raffel or Seamus Heaney, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,
Macbeth by Shakespeare, Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, and The Hound of Baskervilles by
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Spring 2027: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, and The Importance of Being
Earnest by Oscar Wilde. We will also read a selection of poetry by Blake, Keats, and Coleridge.
This class will be a college prep course focusing on reading and analyzing books, poems, plays, and short stories taken from recommended reading lists for college-bound students. This will be a book-based, writing intensive course which will focus on helping students hone their critical thinking skills and writing abilities.
There will be weekly reading quizzes and reading assignments as well as several papers.
