Text: required book list by semester—no abridged versions—any edition:
Fall 2025: Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, Jane Erye by Charlotte Bronte
Spring 2026: Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Silas Marner by George Elliot, War of the Worlds by H.G.
Wells, and The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien.
This class will be a college prep course focusing on reading and analyzing books, poems, plays, and short
stories taken from recommended reading lists for college-bound students. This will be a book-based, writingintensive
course which will focus on helping students hone their critical thinking skills and writing abilities.
There will be weekly reading quizzes and reading assignments as well as several papers.
