Text: required book list by semester—no abridged versions—any edition:


Fall 2024: We will read a wide variety of Early Native American and European American writing (which will be provided in class) as well as The Last of the Mohicans by James Cooper and The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain (both of which will need to be purchased).


Spring 2025: Murder in the Cathedral by TS Eliot, The Old Man and the Seaby Earnest Hemingway, Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansbury, and The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. We will also read a selection of American poetry. All books must be purchased while all poetry will be provided in class.


This class will be a college prep course focusing on reading and analyzing books, poems, plays, and short stories taken from recommended reading lists for college-bound students. This will be a book-based, writing-intensive course which will focus on helping students hone their critical thinking skills and writing abilities. There will be weekly reading quizzes and reading assignments as well as several papers.


*This class may be taken for two years as the subject matter will change.
