Class Description
Students in this reading/writing class will focus on one skill each week to help build confidence and ability. We will focus mostly on reading, and tie our writing skills into our reading each week. There will be a reading and writing assignment each week
To help your child succeed, they should already have a foundation in basic reading and writing skills. Students should be able to:
Begin sounding out CVC words (such as cat, dog, sun, etc.)
Know the sounds of all letters
Write the alphabet and their name
Hold a pencil correctly and write legibly
Follow simple 1–2 step directions
Participate in a group setting and stay engaged for short periods of time (10–15 minutes)
Students do not need to be fluent readers, but should be comfortable attempting to read and write independently with support.
